Our Speakers:
Sarah H. - Court of Queen's Bench Judicial Assistant
Sarah graduated in 2005 from St. Thomas University with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Criminology and Psychology. She began working in 2006 as a real estate conveyancer at a mid-size law firm in Edmonton. From there, she joined the Government of Alberta in the Education and Knowledge Management sector in 2008. Sarah organized key conferences for the Crown Prosecutors of Alberta, along with directly providing legal support to a group of Crown Prosecutors. In 2010 she started working at the Edmonton Law Courts as a Queen's Bench Family Clerk, performing numerous duties, including document filing, Court clerking, organizing Court materials, and general support for the Judiciary and the members of the public navigating their way through the Court system. In September of 2020, Sarah started her most recent role as a Judicial Assistant, performing executive, administrative, paralegal and related duties for an assigned group of Justices of the Queen's Bench of Alberta. Sarah provides a broad range of support to the Judiciary, Case Management, preparation of Judgments, scheduling matters for the Judiciary, and acting as a representative for her assigned Justices in dealing with Court officials, legal counsel and/or the public.
Ashleigh B. - Sr. Judicial Clerk
Ashleigh has been working for Alberta Justice for 7 years. She started working with Queen's Bench Family as a Summer Student while attending Grant MacEwan, and enjoyed the work and the office so much that she accepted a permanent position. During her time at Alberta Justice, she has worked in Queen's Bench Family, Queen's Bench Civil, Court of Appeal, and she is currently working in Queen's Bench Criminal as a Senior Judicial Clerk.
Working in the Criminal office has been Ashleigh’s biggest challenge yet. It is a very fast-paced office with many interesting aspects. Her day to day duties include booking and managing bail and detention review hearings, clerking Queen's Bench Arraignment Court and filing court documents in person and through email.
